Batsiranai - handicraft project, mothers with disable children zimbabwe

“Batsiranai” translates “helping each other”

Batsiranai (BAT-si-RA-nai) is a women’s handicraft project that supports mothers with severely disabled children living under challenging circumstances in Harare, Zimbabwe. In addition to living with extreme poverty, these families often suffer from stigma related to local beliefs regarding the origin of disabilities. In addition to stigma, 25% of the Zimbabwean population is living positively with HIV. Thus, in Zimbabwe there is much opportunity for “helping each other.”

We wish to acknowledge the many volunteers who have given so generously of their time and hearts as well as our fair trade sponsors:

Oxfam Australia Trading, Global Exchange Fair Trade Store, and One World Children's Fund.

It is through your interest and support that Batsiranai can be successful. Please visit the Batsiranai shop link above to view their beautiful designs using embroidery, fabrics, and recycled bottlecap painting. The proceeds from your purchases go directly back to the members.
“May all people be well, may they be well,
Male, Female, male, female,
Goats, cattle, boys and girls:
May they be more than well.
Bad luck go away from us...”

(the Meru of Kenya)
Batsiranai is a Fair Trade Organization registered with IFAT, The International Fair Trade Organization.
